Muhurat Finder for Life Occasions

Rank days for life occasions — vivah, griha pravesh, namkaran, vehicle, business, celebration, and poojan — from Panchang limbs. Occasion, date range, place, and timezone are required. The empty page does not invent New Delhi, today, or Kolkata. Tara Bala is added only if a birth nakshatra is given.

How a shubh muhurat window is selected

Muhurat Finder identifies auspicious time windows for a chosen activity — vivah muhurat, griha pravesh, a business opening, a vehicle purchase, naamkaran, or travel — from the panchang for your place and date range. Enter the activity, the place, and the window you are considering. The tool does not assume today, New Delhi, or Asia/Kolkata.

A shubh muhurat is not a lucky minute. Classical muhurta selects a window where the five angas of the panchang, the weekday, the rising sign, and the position of the Moon all cooperate for the specific activity, and where known inauspicious periods such as rahu kaal, gulika, and yamaghanta are avoided.

Windows are guidance, not guarantees. Community custom, family tradition, and a local priest or temple almanac remain the final authority for ritual timing, and a good muhurat cannot substitute for preparation. Nothing here is medical, legal, or financial advice.

What goes into a muhurat

The five angas come first: tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana, and the weekday. Different activities prefer different combinations. Vivah muhurat traditionally favours particular nakshatras and avoids others entirely, while griha pravesh has its own preferred set.

Next comes the rising sign for the moment itself, because a muhurat chart has a lagna just as a birth does. The lagna and the position of the Moon at that moment shape whether the window is considered supportive for the activity in question.

Finally, inauspicious periods are excluded. Rahu kaal, gulika kaal, and yamaghanta shift daily with sunrise, and bhadra or vishti karana is avoided for auspicious beginnings. A window that clears all of these is what the tool reports.

Why place and date range are required

Muhurat depends on sunrise and sunset at your location, because tithi and the inauspicious periods are computed against the local solar day rather than a clock convention. A window valid in Chennai is not automatically valid in Amritsar.

You also need to give a date range rather than a single day. Auspicious windows for a specific activity may not exist on a given date at all, and forcing one out of an unsuitable day is exactly what classical practice warns against.

The tool will tell you when no suitable window exists in the range you supplied, and it will not manufacture a compromise slot to avoid an empty result. That honesty is more useful than a fabricated timing.

How the calculation is done

Planetary and lunar positions are computed as sidereal longitudes using the Lahiri ayanamsa, matching standard Indian panchang. Tithi comes from the sun–moon angular difference, nakshatra from the Moon’s longitude, and the rising sign from local sidereal time at your coordinates.

Rahu kaal and the other daily inauspicious segments are derived by dividing the interval between sunrise and sunset into eight parts and assigning them by weekday, which is the standard method rather than a fixed clock time.

Because the calculation is astronomical rather than a lookup table, results stay consistent with the Panchang calendar and the chart tools elsewhere on Astro Hindi.

Worked example: choosing a griha pravesh window

Suppose a family in Nagpur wants griha pravesh in the first fortnight of a month. The tool scans that range, discards days where the tithi is unsuitable for entering a new home, and keeps days where the nakshatra is among those traditionally favoured for it.

Within a surviving day, the interval between sunrise and sunset is divided and rahu kaal, gulika, and yamaghanta are removed. The rising sign is checked for the remaining slots, and one morning window of around ninety minutes emerges as the cleanest option.

That window is the output. The family should still confirm with their priest, because household tradition may require a particular ritual sequence or a specific lagna that the general calculation does not know about. The tool has narrowed a fortnight to one good morning; the tradition decides the rest.

Honest limits and next steps

A muhurat does not guarantee an outcome. A well-timed business opening still needs a viable business, and a well-timed wedding still needs two willing people and a working relationship. Timing supports preparation; it does not replace it.

Regional variation is real. Sunrise conventions, masa naming, and community custom can shift a preferred day, so a local almanac or priest may reasonably disagree with a general calculation. When ritual precision matters, follow the local authority.

Frequently asked questions

What is a shubh muhurat?

It is a time window where the panchang angas, the weekday, the rising sign, and the Moon’s position support a specific activity, and where inauspicious periods are avoided.

Why do you need my place?

Because tithi and the daily inauspicious periods are computed against local sunrise and sunset. A window valid in one city is not automatically valid in another.

Why must I give a date range?

Because a suitable window may not exist on a particular day. Searching a range avoids forcing an auspicious slot out of an unsuitable date.

What is rahu kaal and how is it calculated?

It is an inauspicious daily segment found by dividing the sunrise to sunset interval into eight parts and assigning one by weekday. It shifts daily with sunrise.

Which ayanamsa is used?

Lahiri, matching standard Indian panchang, so tithi, nakshatra, and the rising sign align with the calendars families already use.

What if no window is found?

The tool says so. It will not manufacture a compromise slot, because forcing a muhurat out of an unsuitable day is exactly what classical practice warns against.

Can this replace my family priest?

No. Household tradition may require a specific ritual sequence or lagna. Use this to narrow the options, then confirm with your priest or local almanac.

Does a good muhurat guarantee success?

No. Timing supports preparation but never replaces it. A well-timed venture still needs a workable plan.

Why might a local almanac disagree?

Sunrise conventions, masa naming, and community custom vary regionally and can shift a preferred day. Follow the local authority when ritual precision matters.

What should I check before a vivah muhurat?

Compatibility through Guna Matching and Nakshatra Matching, dosha screening for both charts, and timing indications from Shaadi Ke Yog.
