Grah gochar — current planetary transit for your chart

Grah Gochar shows where the planets are transiting right now and reads those positions against your own chart rather than against a generic zero point. Planetary transit is the moving layer of Jyotish: the natal chart says what you were born with, and gochar says what the sky is currently doing to it.

Enter your birth details so the transits can be measured from your natal Moon and, when the birth time is available, from your lagna and houses. Without that anchor a transit list is just astronomy. With it, the same Saturn position becomes a third-house transit for one person and an eighth-house transit for another, which is a completely different reading.

Transit reading is guidance about rhythm and timing, not a forecast of events. It cannot promise a promotion, a marriage, or a recovery, and it is not medical, legal, or financial advice. Read it as a description of which periods support which kinds of effort, and keep your real decisions in your own hands.

What planetary transit means in Jyotish

Gochar is the present position of the nine grahas against the twelve signs. Because your natal chart is fixed at birth, every transiting planet forms a changing relationship with your natal placements — sitting on them, aspecting them, or moving through a particular house counted from your Moon or lagna.

Speed determines the kind of question a transit can answer. The Moon changes sign every two and a quarter days, Mercury and Venus every few weeks, the Sun every month, Mars roughly every six weeks, Jupiter about every twelve months, and Saturn about every two and a half years.

This is why a transit page is layered. Fast planets explain why today feels the way it does; slow planets explain why this year has the shape it has. Reading a Saturn transit as if it were a daily influence, or a Moon transit as if it were a life chapter, is the most common error in transit work.

Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu — the transits people ask about

Sade sati is the seven-and-a-half-year period when Saturn transits the twelfth, first, and second houses from your natal Moon. Classical practice reads it as a demanding but formative stretch that rewards discipline, not as a curse, and the popular fear around it is far heavier than the texts justify.

Dhaiya, or the small panoti, is the two-and-a-half-year Saturn transit through the fourth or eighth house from the Moon. Guru gochar, the Jupiter transit, is watched for the opposite reason: transits through the second, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh from the Moon are traditionally considered supportive.

Rahu and Ketu move backwards through the zodiac and take about eighteen months per sign. Their transits are read for disruption and detachment respectively, and because they are always exactly opposite each other, a Rahu transit always brings a Ketu transit in the facing house at the same time.

How the transit positions are calculated

Astro Hindi computes each planet’s true geocentric longitude for the moment you load the page and converts it to a sidereal position using the Lahiri ayanamsa. Retrograde status, sign ingress dates, and nakshatra placement all follow from that same longitude rather than from a lookup table.

Transits are then counted from your natal Moon sign, because that is the reference classical texts use for gochar phala. Where an accurate birth time is available, house-based transits from the lagna are shown as well, since the two frames often say different things and both are traditionally consulted.

The page does not invent a birth chart. If you have not supplied birth details, it shows the sky as it is and says plainly that the personal layer is missing. A transit read against a guessed Moon sign is worse than no reading at all, because it looks specific while being wrong.

Worked example: one Saturn transit, two charts

Suppose Saturn is currently transiting Kumbha. For someone with natal Moon in Makara, Kumbha is the second house from the Moon, which places them in the closing phase of sade sati — traditionally the stretch associated with financial consolidation and family responsibility.

For someone with natal Moon in Vrishchika, the same Saturn in Kumbha is the fourth house from the Moon, which is dhaiya. Classical reading here points to home, property, vehicles, and inner peace as the areas asking for patience. Same planet, same sign, entirely different life area.

A third person with natal Moon in Tula finds Saturn in their fifth house from the Moon, a placement watched for children, education, and speculative decisions. None of these three readings is a prediction. Each one tells you where to spend patience over the next couple of years.

Honest limits and next steps

Transit alone is an incomplete method. Classical practice holds that gochar only delivers what the running dasha permits: a supportive Jupiter transit during a difficult mahadasha behaves very differently from the same transit during a friendly one. Reading transit without dasha is the most frequent oversimplification online.

No transit guarantees an outcome, and no transit is a sentence. If a page tells you that a particular gochar means you will lose money, fail an exam, or fall ill, that page is selling fear. Nothing on this tool is medical, legal, or financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is grah gochar?

Grah gochar is planetary transit — where the planets are moving right now, read against your fixed natal chart to see which houses and placements they are currently touching.

Should transits be counted from the Moon or the lagna?

Classical gochar phala counts from the natal Moon. House-based reading from the lagna is also used, and careful practice consults both rather than choosing one.

What is sade sati exactly?

It is the roughly seven-and-a-half-year period when Saturn transits the twelfth, first, and second houses from your natal Moon. Texts describe it as demanding and formative, not as a curse.

Is a Saturn transit always bad?

No. Saturn transits are associated with slow, structured effort. Many people describe them later as the periods where the most durable things in their life were built.

How often do transits change?

The Moon changes sign every two and a quarter days, the Sun monthly, Jupiter yearly, Saturn every two and a half years, and Rahu and Ketu about every eighteen months.

Do I need birth details for this tool?

For the personal layer, yes. Without them you will see accurate sky positions but no house-based reading, and the tool will say so rather than guessing a Moon sign.

Which ayanamsa is used?

Lahiri, matching standard Indian panchang, so ingress dates and retrograde windows here agree with the almanac your family may already follow.

Why does transit need dasha to make sense?

Because the running mahadasha decides how much weight a transit carries. The same Jupiter transit lands very differently in a supportive dasha than in a difficult one.

Can a transit predict a specific event?

No. Transits describe supportive and effortful periods. Any source naming a specific event, date, or amount from a transit alone has moved from guidance into invention.

Is this medical or financial advice?

No. Transit reading is belief-based planning guidance. Health, legal, and money decisions need qualified professionals, regardless of what the sky is doing.
